Old Jefferson is located on the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish. It is nestled between New Orleans city limits and the town of Harahan. It is bounded on the South by the River Road that runs along the Mississippi River Levee on the eastbank of Jefferson Parish (North side of the river) (Trust me on the directions...even locals scratch their head on "compass directions vs Eastbank vs Westbank) Most of the homes are located off of Jefferson Hwy and extend West to the Huey P Long Bridge at Clearview, and East to near the Orleans Parish line. (It is in MLS Areas 26 & 27) Old Jefferson is only about 5 to 15 minutes away from many areas of Metairie and New Orleans. It's also a stone's throw to accessing the Westbank via the Huey P. Long Bridge.
Old Jefferson has a large share of raised frame homes from the 1920's, 30's, and 40's, but also has a good selection of brick homes mostly from the 50's and 60's. Tennis at Jefferson Playground, Riverdale High School, and jogging on the levee are some things that come to mind when thinking of Old Jefferson. Old Jeff is a throw-back to the days of drive-in movies, "Tiny's" skating rink, and "Hopper's" car-hopped milk shakes. There have been recent movements in restoring this area to it's former glory... especially now with the new Huey P. Long bridge-widening that is now taking place. The bridge has a target date of 2013 for completion. Getting in on ground floor-prices might be wise if Old Jefferson should benefit from the new attention it is getting. Old Jefferson may also be a good choice for those that like the older and well established neighborhoods with a 1940's to 60's feel.
